Agenda 21 Alert for Calaveras County!

Sadly, for many, the American Dream of building a home in the country seems to be getting farther and farther out of reach.

Sadly, for many, the American Dream of building a home in the country is getting farther and farther out of reach.

At the March 19, 2013 joint study session with the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission, staff was directed to move forward with Draft #2 of the General Plan Land Use Map. The new philosophy governing land uses for the county is to direct new development toward already developed communities and retain resource lands in parcel configurations for agriculture, mining, and forestry uses.

Zoning will likely be changed to be consistent with land use designations. Some people may be losing their right to build under the current proposal. Other people in the county, wishing to enjoy the country life, who intentionally purchased property in low density areas, may find themselves suddenly living in areas designated for much higher density. It appears that the terms and conditions under which people purchased their property may be changed without their permission or just compensation.

Check to see if your plans and property values have been affected! The comment period ends April 19, 2013.
