The guest speaker was Andy Ballantyne. Andy told us about the Jenny Lind Veterans Memorial District and how well it’s been managed over the past years. In fact, in spite of the down economy, the JLVMD has managed to stay in the back.
Al Segalla announced that the Calaveras County Taxpayers Association will be holding its Fourth Annual BBQ on August 3, 2011, at Moaning Caverns Park, between 5 and 8 PM. Supervisor Spellman brought to our attention that the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors will be discussing the Coe Shooting Range. This is a major property rights issue. Tom Coe shopped extensively for property on which to build a shooting range. He finally found suitable property in Valley Springs. The property was zoned appropriate and approval had been given by 4 commissioners.
~ It is the opinion of goldcountrypatriots that government officials must not be allowed to change the terms and conditions under which people purchased their property unless they have written permission from the property owner or justly compensates the owner(s).

Supervisor Spellman also brought to our attention that the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors is trying to influence how the Sheriff’s Department is run.
~ It is the opinion of goldcountrypatriots that the Sheriff best knows how to run his department to best protect the people of Calaveras County and that, after seeing the way the Board of Supervisors has administered the county, the Board of Supervisors should butt out.
