Taxpayers See Red in Wine Stimulus
As part of the federal government’s infamous stimulus spending spree, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers decided against competitive bidding for a bridge in Napa Valley. The government awarded the contract to a small Alaska construction company called Suulutaaq Inc. based on racism and cronyism. Now taxpayers are learning that that even covering overhead and making a hefty profit, the government was overpaying for the project—by at least $10 million dollars.
